NDY has acquired the business assets of 3D visual technology company Luminova. As a prominent international developer of visual technology, NDY’s acquisition of Luminova’s assets and specialised offerings is a natural complement to the 3D capabilities and Building Information Modelling (BIM) specialisations offered by NDY.
“Luminova has built enormous computing power and a digital library that has serviced more than 800 commercial projects across North America, Asia, Europe and Australia,” says NDY Director, Stuart Fowler. “The services offered by Luminova are a natural fit for NDY.”
This synergy is echoed by Luminova CEO, Peter Martin. “NDY is a world leader in services engineering and BIM; Luminova is a leader in Physical Base Modelling. The synthesis created by aligning these two capabilities will now allow the CG 3D model to provide far greater value to the building development and design process than has ever been possible in the past, and at a very attractive cost base.”
Luminova is a leader in configuring and handling extra-large Single Model Environments using Physically Based Modelling techniques.
“Our capabilities ensure our consideration for the largest of projects, where the accurate portrayal of materials and lighting is required to communicate project concepts, and the completed design detail, accurately,” says Martin.
Martin believes the CG 3D model will ultimately become more accessible to stakeholders involved in designing, managing and documenting all building projects.
“Whilst detailed design will always be created with design creation software, I believe industry will ultimately adopt High Definition rendered visualisation of the 3D CAD from BIM upon which to base their decisions, virtually eliminating the interpretive skills required to read engineering drawings. This is going to allow the creative envelope to be pushed far closer to the edge resulting in stunning architectural solutions whilst minimising risk to the developer or building owner at the same time.”
Along with the cutting-edge technology, Luminova also brings a massive and expanding library with more than 20,000 3D objects, 10,000 materials and textures and more than 48,000 light fitting photometric files.
According to Fowler: “By targeting the gaps and limitations inherent in current 3D virtual technologies, Luminova has created a range of powerful and specialised tools to facilitate innovative, practical and highly accessible project planning. This is an exciting addition to NDY’s technical excellence offerings and a key part of the company’s ongoing expansion.”
